| | 1450 WJER News Honored as Ohio's Best by Associated Press
1450 WJER's news team has been honored for the fourth consecutive year by the Associated Press as Ohio's most outstanding small-market news operation. That award highlighted a successful weekend for WJER at the annual A.P. luncheon in Columbus.
News director Jennifer Clark and reporters Jamie Hambach, Jessica Eggan, and Tim Ritzert won 8 first place awards, including the Outstanding News Operation honor, Best Regularly Scheduled News, and Hambach's second straight Best Reporter award.
"Providing the latest local news coverage to Dover, New Philadelphia, and all of Tuscarawas County has been one of the keys to our success since we went on-the-air back in 1950," said WJER president Gary Petricola. "During these challenging economic times when many radio stations are cutting back or completely eliminating their news departments, WJER remains committed to providing our listeners with the best local news coverage. I couldn't be more proud of the job Jennifer, Jamie, and Jessica have done and will continue to do for WJER," added Petricola.
In addition to the Outstanding News Operation, Best Regularly Scheduled News, and Best Reporter awards, WJER also took 1st place honors in the following categories: Best Documentary or Series, Best Spot News Coverage, Extraordinary Coverage of a Scheduled Event, Best Feature Reporting, and Best Enterprise Reporting.

| | WJER Congratulates Strasburg Softball and Ind. Valley Baseball
WJER Sports congratulates the Strasburg softball team and Indian Valley baseball team for winning state championships on Saturday.
The Tigers won the Division 4 state crown 2-0 over Convoy Crestview at Firestone Stadium in Akron, for their fifth overall state softball championship. The game was scoreless until the top of the 7th when Strasburg tallied both their runs, highlighted by Anne Dreher's game-winning RBI single that plated Kristen Smith. Sophomore Kasey Gerber was the winning pitcher, firing 3 hitless innings in relief of Carly Clark - who allowed just 1 hit during her four frames on the mound.
While Strasburg was winning a state title in Akron, Indian Valley was doing the same in Columbus. The Braves
knocked-off Hamilton Badin 7-6 in extra innings to take the Division 3 championship at Huntington Park. Matt Wheeler scored the winning run in the bottom of the 8th on a throwing error by Badin pitcher Jake Clear, who tried to gun Wheeler down at third after IV's Johnny Iacobucci laid down a bunt. The state crown for the Braves was the first in school history.
